Fatal fire on Percy Street

One person is dead after an early morning fire on the 300 block of Percy Street.

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services responded to a three-story multi-unit residential building just after 2:30 am Friday.

Crews arrived at 02:38 am to heavy flame and smoke from a fire in the basement unit which was extending to the floor above with persons injured and trapped,” says Jason Whiteley, Fire Chief, in a release.

He says fire crews immediately began a primary search and fire attack in the basement unit. “One tenant from the basement unit was found deceased and the other was able to self evacuate and was transported by EMS for injuries sustained in the fire,” Whiteley says. “One firefighter was treated at the scene for a minor injury.”

All other tenants were able to evacuate because of working smoke alarms in the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

North Bay Fire and Life Safety Division and North Bay Police will be assisting the Office of the Fire Marshal with the investigation.
