Over $103,000 raised for advanced medical equipment locally

The North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation is thanking the community for making Sunday’s Our Hospital Walk Run a success.

Over $103,000 was raised in support of minimally invasive surgical equipment at the hospital.

Just over 400 people took part in the 16th annual fundraiser.

Gail Thomson, Foundation Trustee who has had 10 surgeries in three years, shared that she had both open and laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgeries.

“The difference in my recovery was significant. I experienced healing complications with the open surgery and my overall healing time was lengthy,” she says, noting her final surgery was performed laparoscopically.  “Instead of three-months to heal, the “key hole” incisions healed within a few weeks and large bulky dressings were not required. I was home within 48 hours and experienced very little discomfort as compared to my other surgeries.”

Tammy Morison, Foundation President and CEO says they’re grateful that the community came out and for the generosity of everyone involved including sponsors, pledgers, participants and volunteers.

“Our Hospital Walk/Run is the community’s largest annual fundraiser for our Health Centre and has an impact on the care available close to home,” she says. “Special thanks to all who helped make Our Hospital Walk/Run a success again this year.”

Team Challenge award winners include:

  • Community Team Challenge Award: True North Chevrolet Cadillac
  • Youth Team Challenge: Team 1305
  • Team Spirit Award: Team Superhero
  • Hospital Team Challenge: Cirque de Sore Legs (Human Resources team)

Since the first Our Hospital Walk/Run in 2006, more than $1.5 million has been raised in support of the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
