New ‘virtual’ city transit stop at ONTC bus terminal

North Bay Transit riders can now book a ride from the Ontario Northland Bus Terminal on Station Road.

The city has added a new ‘virtual’ bus stop as part of its dynamic dispatching service.

“With this new “virtual” stop, we are improving the connectivity of North Bay Transit,” says Drew Poeta, North Bay Transit Manager. “We look forward to continuing to work with Ontario Northland and other community stakeholders to further enhance our public transit system.”

Launched in January 2021, dynamic dispatching operates throughout most of the city in the evenings Monday through Friday between 7 pm and 11 pm and Saturdays between 7 pm and 10 pm.

Instead of traditional fixed-route service, riders can book trips using the myRide NBT app or by telephone.

Once a ride is booked, dynamic dispatching technology matches multiple passengers headed in the same direction into one bus and directs passengers to a marked convenient bus stop location for pick up.

Drop-off locations will also occur at designated bus stops.

“By offering this service at our North Bay terminal, we are enhancing connections to make travel more convenient, safe and affordable for our passengers,” says Herb St. George, Customer Experience Manager at Ontario Northland. “We are happy to partner with the City of North Bay on this innovative project.”

The city says the new “virtual” bus stop will provide Ontario Northland passengers with more convenient and accessible transit service to and from the Terminal, while serving as another location in the Seymour Street area for dynamic dispatching pick-up and drop-off.

To date, dynamic dispatching has provided more than 75,000 rides.
