City to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The City of North Bay is raising an Every Child Matters flag Thursday afternoon and the public is invited.

Officials are recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which is on Friday, Sept. 30.

The flag raising is taking place at 2 pm on Sept. 29 at Leger Square, outside City Hall.

The federal government created the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to bring awareness to the history and legacy of the residential school system in Canada.

Sept. 30 is also Orange Shirt Day, creating awareness of the inter-generational impacts of residential schools and promoting the concept of ‘Every Child Matters’.

In West Nipissing, an Every Child Matters flag will be flown at the Municipal Office and lights at the West Nipissing Power Generation dam will be illuminated in orange.
