Funding to improve snowmobile trails

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is improving trails in the north.

The province is providing over $830,000 in funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund for ten infrastructure projects across the region.

Along with improving trail connectivity, the federation says the money will help extend the useful lifespan of the trails and increase safety for snowmobile riders.

One of the projects includes the decommissioning of two bridges near Mattawa and installing culverts in their place.

Our government is supporting healthy and vibrant communities throughout the north by investing in important community recreational infrastructure,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development. “This investment in snowmobile trail improvements is critical to providing a high quality of life for residents and will increase tourism, strengthening the local economy.”

Other projects include the rerouting of trails along with bridge repairs and replacements in a variety of communities across the north.
