Over 15,000 pounds of food was collected by area students for the North Bay Food Bank this week.

They took part in the two night Thanksgiving Food Drive, canvassing various parts of the city.

About 100 students at West Ferris collected over 10,000 pounds on Wednesday with 3,000 pounds collected by students at Ecole Secondaire Catholique Algonquin.

Debbie Marson, Executive Director of the North Bay Food Bank says she couldn’t sleep from excitement over seeing all the updates on social media.

“We have a consistent need here at the Food Bank so being able to rely on annual food-raisers like this helps us know we’re going to keep the shelves stocked for a couple of months going into the colder weather,” she says.

On Tuesday, students at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall collected over 2,300 pounds of food.

“This community never lets us down they continue to give,” says Marson. “With the three schools that participated in this week’s food drive, we’ve got Bay Roofing doing multiple food drives in October, we’ve got Fill-A-Fire Truck next week at Parker’s Your Independent Grocer and they are always successful because our community is so giving.”

Organizers say if your home was missed, donations can be brought directly to the North Bay Food Bank on Fisher Street.
