North Bay Police charge two youth with robbery

An investigation into a robbery on September 30 has resulted in charges for two young people.

The North Bay Police Service says an elderly man was approached by a group of people on a path leading from Labreche Drive to Nipissing Plaza and after a brief verbal exchange the victim was assaulted by two people and a mobility scooter was damaged.

Police say a witness intervened and the two accused then left the area with property belonging to the victim, who sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries.

Two young people were charged on Oct. 7 with robbery and mischief.

One was released on an undertaking while the other accused was held pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.

The victim was identified after NBPS put out a call for the community’s help last week in locating him.

“Shortly after seeking assistance from the public, we were inundated with information that led us to the victim. This is another example of the many caring and compassionate people we have living in our community,” said Jeff Warner, Inspector of Operations with the North Bay Police Service. “It is disappointing to see crimes like these take place in our community. Thankfully another person intervened to help stop this assault. I would like to thank that person for the action they took and all members of the public who provided us the information necessary to locate the victim in this incident.”
