New and returning mayors around the area

Municipal election results are being certified around the area.  

With incumbents not running again in Mattawa and West Nipissing, new mayors were elected in both communities.  

In West Nipissing, Kathleen Thorne Rochon won the mayor’s chair. 

Voter turnout there was over 47 percent.  

The new mayor in Mattawa is Raymond Bélanger.  

Voter turnout in that community was 46 percent. 

Tim Bryson won the mayor’s seat in Strong Township while Chris Hope defeated incumbent Cathy Still in Burk’s Falls. 

Some area results, at last check, are still unofficial including those in Bonfield, Callander, Powassan and Sundridge. 

There’s a new mayor in Bonfield, where Narry Paquette won with 58 percent of the vote.  Incumbent Randy McLaren was third.  

In Callander, Rob Noon won re-election, as did Peter McIsaac in Powassan, while Justine Leveque was elected mayor in Sundridge. 

East Ferris Mayor Pauline Rochefort and Papineau-Cameron’s Robert Corriveau were both acclaimed.
