The Royal Canadian Legion’s poppy campaign is underway locally and across the country.
The legion says every year, from the last Friday of October to November 11, tens of millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to honour Canada’s Veterans and remember those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today.
Legion Branch 445 in Callander presented their first poppy Friday morning and raised the poppy flag.
Along with poppy boxes being set up in stores, tag days are planned with local veterans and Legion members outside a variety of businesses accepting donations and distributing poppies.
The Callander Legion will have tap tribute boxes available for digital donations.
“This is one of the most important times of the year for our Branch,” says President Ron Devost. “All poppy funds collected remain local and are used to directly assist Veterans and their families in times of need.”
West Nipissing Legion Branch 225 posted on social media that last year’s poppy campaign raised over $12,000 for their Poppy Trust Fund.
