Rural and northern issues the focus of NPI conference in North Bay

A three-day conference on rural and northern issues starts Wednesday in North Bay.

The Northern Policy Institute (NPI) is hosting the 2022 Northern Directions conference at the Best Western with all sessions being held virtually, too.

NPI says the main theme is ‘Working to Scale” and looks at how rural and remote communities, especially those in the north, can scale best practices, initiatives and programs to best fit their communities.

Discussions around reconciliation, revitalization and reinvestment will also be held, along with population retention and welcoming, regional transportation, and more.

Along with keynote speakers, there are panel sessions, research and case study presentations and field trips.

Excursions involve innovation at Nipissing First Nation, agriculture in Powassan, protecting the rural environment with the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority and rural transportation with Ontario Northland Transportation Commission.
