Woman with axe tased and charged by city police

Charges have been filed after police say officers, who were responding to a person trying to get into a Main Street East building, encountered a person with an axe early Thursday morning.

The North Bay Police Service says a woman ignored police commands to drop the weapon and instead used it to try to open the door to the business.

Police say she was unsuccessful and when brandishing the axe in the direction of police, she was tased and arrested.

The 32-year-old woman faces six charges including break and enter, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
