City police have charged a 21-year-old man from McDougall as a part of a provincial strategy to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation online.
He is one of 107 people charged.
As a part of Project Maverick, the Ontario Provincial Police says over 400 charges were laid in October across Ontario after 255 investigations. Twenty-seven police agencies were involved including the North Bay Police Service.
The OPP says 61 victims were identified and referred to community-based resources for assistance, while an additional 60 children were safeguarded. North Bay Police say seven charges were filed against the man from McDougall, including possession of child pornography, make available child pornography and assault with a weapon.
He’s being held in custody.
The North Bay Police Service will not be releasing the name of the accused, who was charged while in custody at a correction centre, in order to protect the identity of the victim.
Police also say there are 175 ongoing investigations across the province where additional charges may be laid.
