The North Bay Volleyball Club 18U Boys Lakers Surge started their season with a smash after taking home the silver medal at the Ontario Volleyball Association Challenge Cup in Oshawa over the weekend.
Despite only having 8 players dressed, the team only dropped one set in round-robin play, and with their one loss coming in the finals against the first-seeded team from Toronto.
Officials say Ben Franz and Landon Jackson played an outstanding game against Pakmen with their dominant play at the net, and setter Jude Caruso connecting well with both the middles was key to the Lakers success.
Officials add Coach Tim Ryan was happy to be back on the bench, noting it was “just like old times”, having previously coached several of the players in their early formative years.
“I am extremely proud of how this team played. We played the entire day with only eight players. Considering this is our first tournament I am excited to see what the future holds for this talented team.” added Ryan.
In addition to the 7 players from North Bay, the team is happy to have 2 players joining them from Huntsville.
