National nods for Battalion and Lakers

Both the North Bay Battalion and the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team are in the national spotlight this week.

Nipissing is up two spots in the USports Top 10 rankings, to fourth in Canada this week.

The Lakers wrapped up the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule with a couple of wins this past weekend to enter the break with an 11-1-1 record.

After winning all three of their games last week, the North Bay Battalion earned an honourable mention in this week’s CHL Top 10.

On Monday, Battalion goalie Dom DiVincentiis was named OHL Goaltender of the Week.

The Winnipeg Jets prospect had two wins, a goals-against average of 1.00 and a .967 save percentage.

The Central Division-leading Troops are home to the Soo on Thursday night for The Brick North Bay’s Teddy Bear Toss night.

Stuffed toys must be wrapped in a plastic bag and will be donated to various charities for children in the community.

Still with the OHL, Sarnia netminder Ben Gaudreau, who is from Corbeil, is one of four goaltenders invited to Canada’s World Junior Team Selection Camp.

The camp takes place from December 9-12 in Moncton, NB.
