Robotics tournament draws couple hundred students to the city

Fifteen robotics teams are taking part in the 8th annual North Bay FIRST LEGO League Challenge Qualifying Tournament at West Ferris Secondary School this Saturday.

Over 200 students and their student, parent and teacher mentors are vying for the chance to compete at the East Provincial FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Challenge Championship in January.

The theme this year is ‘SuperPowered’ with teams tasked with building a LEGO robot that autonomously runs ‘missions’ on a competition table.

Teams also create a project and presentation to show a problem that showcases a problem centered on the SuperPowered theme and their proposed solution.

Opening ceremonies take place at 8:15 am, followed by a full day of table-top robotics matches, project presentations and judging.

Officials say the best spectator times are from 1 pm to 3:30 pm with awards expected to be presented by 4:30 pm.
