Nearly $250,000 in federal funding is going to two local projects celebrating culture, arts and heritage.
Anthony Rota, Nipissing-Timiskaming MP announced the Capitol Centre is receiving over $170,000 for energy-efficient equipment upgrades.
“Firstly, repairing our Liebert system, which is responsible for maintaining the temperature and humidity in the WKP Kennedy Gallery. This will increase our ability to attract high-calibre, and sometimes delicate, visual art exhibitions to share with the North Bay public,” says Katina Connolly, Executive Director. “Secondly, the repairs to the smoke hatch in the Betty
Speers Theatre will mean upgraded safety and security measures in place, and a more professional, soundproofed space on stage.”
Les Compagnons des Francs Loisirs receives nearly $77,000 to help run the 60th edition of Le Carnaval des Compagnons.
“This grant will enhance the 60th Winter Carnival which we look forward to celebrating with the community of North Bay and surrounding areas,” says Arnaud Claude, Executive Director.
Rota says these projects will help area residents continue to celebrate arts and culture here in North Bay and around Nipissing-Timiskaming.
“This investment in these projects will contribute to the development of organizations hosting events, as well as performances in the arts, culture and heritage sector,” he says. “This will also give these organizations a chance to offer locals and visitors an arts
and culture experience unique to our area. We can’t overlook the impact the arts and
culture sector have on tourism and economic development.”
Funding is coming from the Department of Canadian Heritage.
