Local hospitals receive one time pandemic reimbursement funding

Over $2.7 million dollars in one-time funding is coming to our local hospitals to support ongoing operations.

MPP Vic Fedeli says the money represents a significant portion of reimbursement for hospital expenses incurred in response to the pandemic.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our local hospitals have gone above and beyond to provide exceptional care to patients and families in our community,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Today’s funding is just one way Ontario supports high-quality and timely access to health care to ensure we can stay open and be there for individuals and families if and when they need access to care.”

The funding breakdown is as follows:

COVID-19 Incremental Operating expenses (OPEX) for the months of April to June 2022

  • $1,396,745 for the North Bay Regional Health Centre
  • $22,589 for the Mattawa Hospital

Health Human Resources expenses (HHR) for the months of April to June

  • $12,230 for the North Bay Regional Health Centre
  • $26,157 for the Mattawa Hospital

Pandemic Prevention and Containment costs (PPC)

  • $1,186,900 for the North Bay Regional Health Centre
  • $100,000 for the Mattawa Hospital

“Health care workers have been on the front lines of the fight against the pandemic for almost three years,” says Paul Heinrich, President and CEO of the North Bay Regional Health Centre. “Even though we have moved out of the pandemic, the residual impacts continue to negatively impact our workforce and our finances. Thankfully, the funding announced today by Minister Fedeli will offset some of the additional costs incurred by our Health Centre, enabling our team to focus on providing high quality patient care to our patients in the Nipissing district and across our region with one less worry.”
