Environment Canada says significant winter storm expected

Just in time for the holidays, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the North Bay area.

It stretches from West Nipissing to Mattawa and Powassan.

The weather agency says a significant winter storm is expected late this week into the holiday weekend.

Precipitation may begin as rain or snow late Thursday before possibly transitioning to rain in many areas early Friday,” reads the statement.  “Temperatures are expected to plummet on Friday leading to a potential flash freeze for locations that receive rainfall.”

Environment Canada also says rapidly falling temperatures will be accompanied by strong to potentially damaging winds along with snow that may be heavy at times, with blizzard conditions possible late Friday into the weekend for some areas.
