Area snow depth below normal

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA)  is reporting below normal snow depth in the area.

On Jan. 3, there was 15.1 cm of snow recorded in North Bay, 7.7 cm in Corbeil and 9.6 cm in Chisholm.

The Conservation Authority says snow depth in the city is about 40% below normal for this time of the year, while it’s about 73% below in Corbeil and 69% below in Chisholm.

“Overall snow depth and water equivalence remain below normal for this time of year, with the exception of snow water equivalence in North Bay which is 90% near normal,” says Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist. “The average snow depth is similar to the conditions at this time last year.”

Snow surveys are part of NBMCA’s role in the Provincial Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the North Bay area, from West Nipissing to Mattawa and Powassan.

The weather agency says 15 cm of snow, at times mixed with ice pellets, is possible Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.
