Chamber selects new President and CEO

The North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce (NBDCC) has a new President and CEO.

Donna Backer has been selected to lead the business group, effective Monday, Jan. 9.

“Donna is no stranger to our Chamber as she has provided great leadership as interim President and CEO over the past many months,“  says Ryan Drouin, Chair of the NBDCC Board of Directors.  “Prior to serving in the interim role, Donna was the NBDCC Director of Development, Policy & Communications since January 2021, where she oversaw the development of new communication strategies and successful campaigns like Shop Local.

Drouin also says Backer has worked to implement the new Chamber Perks member discount program and has been an asset to the organization by maintaining a positive relationship with members and key stakeholders.

Before joining the chamber, Backer was a senior account manager with TWG Communications and Executive Assistant to MPPs Mike Harris and Al McDonald.

“Thank you to the selection committee of the Board for having the confidence in me to take on this leadership position with the NBDCC,” Backer says.  “I look forward to working with the board, staff and our great members of this long-standing Chamber to further the organization’s growth, continue to build partnerships, work collaboratively with key stakeholders and advocate fearlessly for business at all levels of government.”

Former Chamber President and CEO Peter Chirico was elected mayor of North Bay in October.
