North Bay Granite Club hosting Northern Ontario U18 curling championship

The Northern Ontario U18 Provincial Curling Championship starts Wednesday at the North Bay Granite Club. 

Five boys teams and eight girls teams are competing for spots at the upcoming Canadian Curling Championship. 

Along with the Northern Ontario champions, another team from each division will advance to the nationals in Timmins as the host team.  

There are two North Bay Granite Club teams taking part.

The boys team includes skip Riley Winters, vice Wesley Decary, second Michael Miller, lead Grayson Gribbon and alternate Josh Dumoulin. 

Melodie Johnston skips the local girls team, which includes vice Karleigh McNaughton, second Sara Moore and lead Olivia Forsyth. 

Play starts Wednesday afternoon and continues through the finals on Sunday.

The national U18 event takes place Feb. 5-11 in Timmins.
