Average snow depth jumps about 20 cm in 2 weeks

Your shovel probably already knew this – area snow depth is up.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority reports average snow depth has increased by nearly 20 cm since the last readings on January 3.

“Snow depth is getting closer to normal for this time of year and the water stored in the snowpack is a little above normal,” says Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist.

When looking at the specific measuring sites, snow depth is just above normal in North Bay and just below in Corbeil and Chisholm.

The Conservation Authority measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.
