Driver charged with impaired after child injured in HWY 17 crash

An 11-year-old was treated for serious injuries after being in a car crash caused by an impaired driver.

That’s according to North Bay OPP who says on Jan. 14, at approximately 7:55 p.m., officers along with the North Bay Fire Department and EMS responded to a multi-vehicle car crash on HWY 17 at the HWY 17B intersection in North Bay.

An 11-year-old passenger was transported to hospital.

Police say a driver was arrested at the scene for impaired driving and transported to the local OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, a 40-year-old from Sturgeon Falls was charged with:

  • Operation causing bodily harm, contrary to section 320.14(2) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused was released with an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in North Bay Court in February.
