Councillors to meet with provincial cabinet ministers

A delegation from North Bay city council has a couple of meetings lined up with provincial cabinet ministers next week.

The sessions are taking place at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference in Toronto.

One meeting is with David Piccini, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

City officials say they’ll be discussing adjustments to the Endangered Species Act around development that don’t translate well for the north.

The other meeting is with Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development and Mines on the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.

Councillors will be asking for continued stable funding and that the government consider increases to offset inflationary pressures.

More than 1,200 people from rural municipalities and organizations across Ontario will be at the conference.

Along with workshops and sessions on municipal issues, there will be keynote speakers, including Premier Doug Ford, several cabinet ministers and the provincial opposition leaders.
