Fallen BC police officer was previously a local paramedic

An avalanche accident in southern British Columbia has claimed a second victim.

Constable Mathieu Nolet, who was originally from Hearst, died of his injuries at a Kelowna Hospital on Saturday.

Nipissing District Paramedic Services offered its condolences on social media noting that officer Nolet served as a paramedic in North Bay & West Nipissing before moving west to become a police officer.

Nolet had been a member of the Nelson, BC police force for about a year after moving from Calgary.

Constable Wade Tittemore died at the scene, while Nolet was dug out by people in the area who witnessed the slide.

In a statement, the Ontario Provincial Police Association says it was saddened at the news and is thinking about Nolet’s parents, Gino and Jen, who are fellow association members.
