Province covering COVID-related expenses at NBRHC

More one-time provincial funding is flowing to the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

The hospital is being reimbursed $483,821 for COVID-19 related capital expenses in the 2022-23 fiscal year.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the North Bay Regional Health Centre has gone above and beyond to provide exceptional care to patients and families in our community,” says Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing. “Today’s funding reflects how the provincial government has identified and responded to the growing healthcare needs within the region.”

Fedeli says the money is in addition to the $8 million in one-time funding announced last April to address additional operations and financial pressures.

Another one-time funding announcement in December included $2.7 million to support ongoing operations and bedding capacity.

“Our health care system is seeing provincial-wide spikes in demand, pandemic backlogs and long waits to discharge patients to community care,” says Paul Heinrich, President & CEO of the North Bay Regional Health Centre. “The support from the province has ensured we could continue to provide safe, reliable care to our communities by helping us purchase the equipment required for temporary beds to support the increase in demand at our Health Centre.”
