A motion requesting information on a ward system for North Bay has been referred to committee for further discussion.
Prior to that, councillor Mac Bain said he’s happy to have a conversation about it. He says he knows a lot of councillors across the province who are in wards and some represent the entire community.
But, he also said many don’t and only represent their specific neighbourhood.
“Sometimes when you have a ward councillor, harkening back to those that only represent their 10 blocks. They’re sitting on the Health Unit, they’re sitting on the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board, what’s it matter? All they’re thinking about is getting re-elected by their 10 blocks,” he says. “It is those things that should be taken into consideration when we’re voting on the report or seeing the report from the clerk.”
The issue will now be discussed at the General Government committee.
