PET scanner fundraising drive sees uptick

The fundraising pace has picked up since the province announced a PET scanner for Northeastern Ontario last week.  The province will pay the $1.6 million annual operating costs, once residents of the northeast raise the money to buy the scanner.

Up until last week’s announcement only 800-thousand dollars had been raised over several years for the cancer-detecting equipment.  But since then, the drive has topped $1 million as more donations start pouring in.

The scanner will cost $3.5 to $4 million.  It would be housed at the Health Sciences North hospital in Sudbury.
