Another overnight option to keep warm

Officials say due to the extreme cold warning from Environment Canada, the transit terminal on Oak Street in North Bay will be open overnight tonight for anyone seeking a warm place.

It’s in addition to existing cold weather services already in place for individuals experiencing homelessness at the Low Barrier Shelter on Chippewa Street, Crisis Centre Four Elms on Cassells Street, and at some local hotels.

Currently, the transit terminal provides a daytime warming place, as does The Gathering Place on Cassells Street and the Day Warming Site on Chippewa Street.

District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board Chair, Mark King, says DNSSAB is thanking all partners and volunteers who are working collaboratively to mitigate the risks of homelessness and extreme weather.
