Arson charge laid after Main East house fire

A 27-year-old man is facing an arson charge after Wednesday’s fire on the 400 block of Main Street East.

Just before 3:30 pm, the North Bay Police Service responded to a report of a person in crisis on the roof of a residence.

Police report a structure fire was reported when officers arrived, noting the accused fell from the roof and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution and North Bay Fire and Emergency Services extinguished the fire, with extensive damage reported. Police say the accused was transported to the hospital by EMS and no other injuries were reported.

The accused, whose name is not being released by police, was released on an Undertaking and is set to appear before the court on April 4.
