Police determine no threat to staff or students at Chippewa

The Near North District School Board (NNDSB) says Chippewa Secondary School is open as usual on Thursday.

This after the board says North Bay Police investigated a possible threat to the school overnight and quickly determined there was no threat to staff or students.

“The NNDSB would like to thank those who brought this to the attention of the police and administration, allowing for a quick resolution and confirming the safety of staff and students to attend the school,” states a release.

The North Bay Police Service says it received a report on Wednesday, Feb. 15 that information about a possible threat to a local school was circulating on social media.

“Working with our policing partners, an investigation revealed that the information on social media originated from Southern Ontario and was not in reference to any schools in North Bay,” reads a police statement.  “The local police service in the community the information originated from is aware and has investigated the information. There was no credible threat to the safety of staff or students here in North Bay.”

The Near North Board says the safety and well-being of staff and students is their top priority, adding it appreciates the actions and communication of the North Bay Police Service throughout the investigation.
