No injuries in Lakeshore Drive motel fire

North Bay Fire crews continued to battle a fire at a motel on the 400 block of Lakeshore Drive by mid-afternoon on Wednesday.

The call came in around 10 am and Fire Chief Jason Whiteley says they got on the scene quickly and knocked down the main body of the fire.

“Unfortunately with the age of this building and additions put on there were one or two void spaces that the fire was hiding in and once it got some oxygen it broke through,” he says. “We stopped it from getting to the front of the building but the back of the building is going to be a loss.”

Whiteley also says there were no injuries.

“Upon arrival, we ensured that everybody was out of the building.  We’ve done several checks on the building to ensure that people are out, so there will be no injuries,” he says.  “But, there will be several people displaced.”

Whiteley also says low water flows have hampered the situation.

“This part of the city has older mains and it doesn’t have the same amount of water flows that we needed to get on top of this fire quickly,” he says.

Lakeshore Drive is closed to traffic while fire crews are on the scene.

North Bay Fire is asking that people avoid driving down that area of Lakeshore Drive while they’re battling the fire.

Officials also ask residents south of the Franklin Motel to keep their windows closed.
