City fire crews deploy ice water rescue unit to snowmachine crash

One person was injured after a snowmachine crash Monday on Lake Nipissing.

Ontario Provincial Police with the North Bay Detachment report a person in their 70s struck a pressure crack while riding their snowmachine and sustained minor injuries.

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services and paramedics responded at about 5 pm to the crash near Howland Drive.

“Firefighters responded with our Ice Water Rescue Unit and deployed the snowmachine and rescue sled,” says Greg Saunders, Deputy Fire Chief, in a release.  “Two firefighters and one paramedic drove out to the accident and provided rescue and medical aid to the injured snowmobiler.”

Saunders says the person was then brought to shore in the rescue sled where they were met by the ambulance and taken to the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
