Charge of inciting hatred dropped against political candidate

A Sudbury fringe candidate who is no stranger to controversy during election campaigns is off the hook.  The Crown has withdrawn charges of inciting hatred and advocating genocide against David Popsecu.

The 68-year-old was charged during February’s provincial by-election in Sudbury for distributing campaign material police allege promoted hatred and genocide toward a specific group.  It’s not known why the Crown withdrew the charges.

However in 2008 during an election debate in Sudbury, Popsecu was charged for saying all homosexuals should be executed.  That comment resulted in a suspended sentence and 18 months probation.
