Trails safety initiative results in several charges

Two dozen charges were filed during a recent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) safety initiative on area trails and waterways.

North Bay OPP along with the Snowmobile, All-Terrain Vehicle and Vessel Enforcement (SAVE) Unit took part in the patrols over the first weekend of March Break.

Nearly 370 snow machine drivers were stopped with 24 screened for alcohol and one charged with impaired.

Another 24 charges were laid under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act, including speeding, failing to produce documentation and failing to have proper safety equipment like helmets.
