Winter storm warning issued for the area

Mother Nature has apparently decided March will go out like a lion this year instead of a lamb.

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the area for Friday night into Saturday.

The weather agency says prolonged freezing rain with significant ice buildup is possible, along with reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Snowfall accumulations up to 15 cm are possible.

Environment Canada says a first wave of snow will fall during the day, with a brief break in the evening before a second and much stronger system moves in Friday night.

A wintry mix of precipitation will develop.

The weather agency says the northern portions of the region may see primarily snow and ice pellets whereas southern portions of the region may see primarily freezing rain or rain.
