North Bay welcoming over 130 bowlers this week

Bowlers from across the north are converging on the city this week.

They’re competing in the Open Provincial Championship from Apr. 4-8.

“There are over 130 participants with their spouses and family coming from six zones across the province, from as far away as Kenora through to Parry Sound,” says Cheryl Zilinski, tournament director with the Gateway Bowlers Association.

They’re competing in men’s, ladies and mixed team events along with singles titles for the chance to advance to nationals in Edmonton in late May.

Zilinski says the championship event will have a positive economic impact on North Bay.

“They’ll be here for a minimum of five nights and six days,” she says. “Staying at various hotels, having to eat out and doing some shopping.”

The tournament is being held at Partner’s Billiards and Bowling.
