Canadore’s emergency vehicle technician training boasts national participation

People from around the country are currently at Canadore College’s Commerce Court receiving training on the latest fire truck equipment and apparatus.

It’s all part of the new Emergency Vehicle Technician training the school is offering.

Local technicians along with those representing fire departments from as far away as Nunavut are taking part.

Officials say the program, which was previously offered at the Ontario Fire College, will also benefit the City of North Bay’s fleet service and fire department.

“With North Bay Fire championing EVT training, this will allow our fleet mechanics to update and maintain their skills to ensure our emergency vehicles remain safe and are always ready to respond,” said Fire Chief Jason Whiteley.

Darin Roy, Fleet Coordinator for North Bay, adds other municipalities aren’t as fortunate because of the costs involved in long-distance training, and it’s great to see the city send as many technicians as they can.

Officials say the training is being delivered in conjunction with the Fire Department Safety Officers Association (FDSOA).
