Inaugural Hometown Run for Youth Special Olympics set for May 7

We’re less than two weeks away from the inaugural Hometown Run for Youth Special Olympics.

The fundraiser takes place on Sunday, May 7, and includes 5 km and 10 km events, along with a 1km family fun run/walk.

Lisa O’Kane, race co-director says funds raised will help sponsor youth Special Olympics Athletes between the ages of seven and 21.

“It costs our athletes approximately $250 a year to do all of their activities and all of their sports,” she says. “We’re just trying to offset that as much as possible can.”

Registration is already underway online.

“We’re super excited that we have approximately 60-70 runners/walkers already,” O’Kane says. “We know we’ll have same-day registrations as well.”

She says the May 7 event starts at 8:30 am at the North Bay Museum.

O’Kane also says residents can get involved by volunteering for the event or making a donation.
