Saturday marks the return of the Powassan Maple Syrup Festival

The Powassan Maple Syrup Festival is back this Saturday for the first time in four years.

Roger Glabb, chair, says they took it year-by-year during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We were hoping that it would be all over within a year and we’d be able to get started. Then the second year came and nothing. Then the third year came and nothing,” he says. “We were at a point where we thought maybe this was the end of the Maple Syrup Festival but the fourth year came and here we are. Everybody is excited.”

Glabb says the festival is free and there’s plenty on the go.

“We’re featuring all local entertainment. We have the kid’s zone, the lumberjacks are back and the pancake breakfasts are up and running,” he says. “We have 160 vendors on Main Street and another 45 inside the arena.”

Glabb says depending on the weather, they’re expecting big crowds.

“[We’re] hoping to generate, if the weather stays the way it is, anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000 people,” he says. “We’ve got calls coming in from places like Noëlville and the French River area wanting to bus seniors in and if there’s parking for them. It’s reaching out and people are getting excited, even from far away.”

The event also features offsite parking at Evan Hughes Excavating with shuttle buses to the festival and the sugar bush.
