Road Safety Strategy being developed in North Bay

The city is looking to help make North Bay’s streets and sidewalks safer.

A road safety strategy is going to be developed and officials say depending on what the consultants recommend, that could potentially mean automated speed enforcement and red-light cameras.

A Request for Proposals from engineering consultants closes on May 10.

The city says the new strategy will include a review of the City’s existing transportation infrastructure standards and will be used to help guide everything from road design and traffic speeds to signage and signalization.

The strategy will also include a traffic calming policy to help manage traffic safety concerns on low volume streets.

“Rather than looking at each traffic concern individually, this Road Safety Strategy will provide a comprehensive plan for improving safety for everyone on our roads, which we know is a priority for our residents,” says Deputy Mayor Maggie Horsfield.

The public will be able to offer feedback during the process with consultations including  in-person public meetings or workshops.

The completed strategy is expected to be presented to council in the summer of 2024.
