A North Bay student is competing in a national public-speaking competition this week.
Amara Lesanthan, a grade 8 student at St. Luke Catholic School, is one of twelve students from across Canada taking part in the Speaker’s Idol finale, hosted by the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies.
The finalists will be discussing human rights issues of importance and sharing their vision for positive change by learning from the past.
They were chosen from more than 200 students across Canada.
Hundreds of students will be watching the year’s competition, which is being held virtually on Wednesday.
There are two rounds, one featuring six students in grades 6-8 and the second involving six students in grades 9-12.
A panel of judges will determine the best speech in each round.
