The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) says water levels and stream flows remain high but the warm and dry conditions from the weekend are expected to continue.

The ministry says that will allow local inflows to decline in the West Nipissing area and will allow water levels to slowly subside in the Mattawa area.

The MNRF says high water levels that impacted roads in the West Nipissing area last week have decreased.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) says a flood watch continues for the Lake Nipissing shoreline and for all other areas in the NBMCA watershed.

“The Ottawa River water level at Mattawa has decreased by around 40 cm since Wednesday, May 3,” says Chitra Gowda, NBMCA CAO. “However, low-lying areas in and around the Town of Mattawa continue to be affected.  There is a potential for gradual water level decreases in both rivers in the next few days.”

The Conservation Authority says the Lake Nipissing water level has increased by 15 cm since May 4 and is expected to increase further this week.
