Correctional workers could be on strike Sunday

The union representing Ontario’s correctional workers and the provincial government head back to the negotiation table today.

With the help of a mediator, they will try to reach a contract deal. Over 6,000 correctional workers across the province are in a legal strike position come Sunday. That includes over 50 at the North Bay jail.

OPSEU is fighting for correctional workers to be declared an essential service, which would have their pay rise with police and firefighters. They would also lose the right to strike.
