Skills Ontario hardware for two Canadore aviation students

A couple of 2nd year Aircraft Maintenance students at Canadore College finished one-two at a recent Skills Ontario competition.

Emma Chilton won gold and Connor Laroque won silver at the annual contest, which officials say is Canada’s largest skills competition.

The college says Chilton, who is from Bracebridge, is the first female student from Canadore to win a gold medal.

She says her experience at the Aviation Campus in North Bay prepared her well.

“During the cylinder bore measurement exercise, the advantage of learning at Canadore became evident as I had done the job in my first and second years,” says Chilton. “Having the opportunity to compete for Canadore has prepared me for any situation that I may encounter in the field.”

Laroque, who is from Clayton, Ontario says the time spent learning at Canadore was instrumental in his success at the skills event.

“The hands-on experience paired with the individual attention given by the instructors to each student is unmatched by any other school in the province,” says Laroque. “Canadore’s aviation program is well equipped with training aids in all aspects of the industry.”

Chilton will compete for Canadore at the national skills competition later this month in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
