Construction to begin this summer on new All-Wheel Park

Another project involving the Downtown Waterfront Master Plan is moving forward.

A contract to build a new All-Wheel Park, including a skatepark and pump track, is coming to council for approval next week.

The new All-Wheel Park will be located by the multi-use courts near the transit terminal.

Officials say work will get underway this summer.

“The addition of the All-Wheel Park in this location will further enhance the Downtown Waterfront,” said Coun. Lana Mitchell, Chair of Infrastructure and Operations. “This new outdoor recreational facility will provide skateboarders and pump-track enthusiasts of all ages a place to practice and enjoy their sport.”

The $1.6 million project will feature a plaza-style concrete skatepark, pump track, social/event plaza and container washrooms.

The accessible park will also include seating areas, lighting, and landscaping.

Over $800,000 for the project is coming from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund while the Kiwanis Club of North Bay is contributing to the project.

“The Kiwanis Club of Nipissing is proud to be the community partner in another project at the city’s Downtown Waterfront by providing a funding commitment of $100,000,” said Kiwanis President Justin Wigelius.

He says Kiwanis has a proud history of supporting community projects locally, including the bandshell at the waterfront and the Lee Park playground.
