The Near North District School Board is updating its School Openings, Closing and Consolidation Administrative Guideline to “more closely reflect mandates in the Human Rights Code”.
Officials say the board learned through the Chippewa renaming process that updates were needed, with the renaming committee now waiting for them before continuing its work.
The process for changing the administrative guideline includes a 30-day consultation period.
“Once complete, the administrative guideline will ensure that the human rights of all people are prioritized and maintained in the opening, closing, or consolidation of any NNDSB school,” states a release.
The board says it remains committed to supporting all students, which includes removing barriers that perpetuate harm.
