Committee to make recommendations on city’s long-term financial plan

Council has set up a committee to review and update the city’s Long-Term Financial Plan.

The committee is made up of five councillors including Deputy Mayor Maggie Horsfield, who is the chair.

“With this new council and the majority of folks wanting to see some changes to the way things have been done, this is a great opportunity for us to lend our opinions and our thoughts and how we can make things better for the community when it comes to the finances and the budget process,” she says.

Horsfield says the main focus is on policies that staff follow, including procurement and others.

“It’s taking a hard look at those policies to make sure that they still align with where we want to see the city,” she says. “That the best practices of other communities are reflected in it as well. If there are ways that we can be more efficient with how those policies are organized that we take those into consideration.”

The committee will report back to council with recommendations by early September.
