Health Coalition details voting locations for health care referendum

Nearly 20 polling places have been set up by the North Bay and District Health Coalition for its citizen-run referendum on public versus private health care.

Officials are asking residents if they want public hospital services to be privatized to a for-profit hospital or clinic.

The referendum is a response to provincial legislation expanding for-profit clinics and hospitals to take on surgeries and diagnostic procedures typically done at public hospitals, something the province claims will make it easier and quicker to access care.

Ontario residents 16 and older can cast ballots on May 26 and 27.
