Studded tire deadline approaching

The deadline is fast approaching to get your studded tires off your vehicle if you haven’t already.

City police are reminding drivers they have to be removed by the end of the day on Wednesday.

Under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, vehicles registered in Northern Ontario can be equipped with studded tires between September 1 and May 31.

Police say drivers can face a fine of $85 if they continue to use studded tires after May 31.

They say the fine is $200 for commercial motor vehicles.

According to Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation, studded tires are less effective on bare pavement than all-season tires.
